The Rotary Club of Melfort is pleased to support the Girl Guides Pipon Rally where they will learn and participate in Indigenous and Metis Culture traditions. We support the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action that encourages our cultures to learn from each other and to build positive relationships going forward. This is a wonderful educational project that should instill in the participants a sense of responsibility to embrace all cultures in diversity, equity and inclusion.

From Joline Ozeroff, Embers (formerly Brownies) Leader and one of the organizers of Pipon Rally to be held January 28, 2023 at the KVC.

Pasquia Lily District is planning a Girl Guide Rally on January 28 2023 at the Kerry Vickar Centre in Melfort. This all day event is bringing young ladies ranging in ages from 5-18 years old from Melfort, Tisdale & Nipawin.

This event is called Pipon ("Winter" in Cree) Rally, where we will spend the day learning, observing and taking part in Indigenous & Metis Culture traditions. We will have guests Chief Margaret Bear from Ochapowace  Nation (guest speaker), Courtney-Dawn Anaquod (from  Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation- will teach jigging to the youth), Edward Stonestand from James Smith Cree Nation will perform pow wow with his  drumming group & dancers in traditional regalia. Marguerite Riel Centre from Melfort is providing volunteers to help with educational activities and donating supplies to help our event run smoothly.  Also special volunteers Amy Constant a James Smith Band Member from Melfort & Karlee Bear from Ochapowace Cree Nation assisting in teaching the older girls beading.

We are so excited to be hosting this Girl Guide District Rally and the communities working  together to make this a successful event. We would not be able to host such an amazing Rally without the support from ROTARY Club of Melfort who graciously donated $1000 to the event. This donation will allow us to put on a top rated day full of fun, interactive activity/learning, while  providing life long memories for our girl guide attendees.
